Smartphone Faster Again: One or two years is usually enough for smartphones to noticeably lose performance. However, you do not have to replace your device right away. Today we’ll tell you six tricks to make your old Android smartphone faster again.
Every year, the major smartphone manufacturers introduce new devices – and each of these new releases is faster and better than its predecessors. So it is understandable that at some point, we start to be dissatisfied with our smartphones. In particular, with the various Android devices, the half-life appears to be relatively short. It feels like your model starts to have minor errors after about a year.
Sometimes the app doesn’t load. Other times the screen hangs when swiping between the individual screens, and at some point, it may even crash. Then the only thing that helps is a restart – or a new smartphone?
The answer to this question, which many users ask themselves afterward, is: A new device for several hundred euros does not have to be immediate. You can provide your old smartphone with new life energy with a few little tricks. We present six of these tips to you today.
The manufacturers deliver recent optical highlights on your screen with each new system update. This often looks very good, but it also costs a lot of energy and strains performance. Therefore, it would be best to deactivate all transition effects and other animations in the developer options.
From computers, we know that large folders with files and leftovers are created when a program is downloaded. It’s no different on your Android smartphone. That’s why you can easily remove unnecessary ballast with the Google Files app. It is also worth clearing the app cache with older devices from time to time. For Android 9 or later devices, the operating system is better at cleaning itself up.
If your old Android smartphone is becoming slower and slower, it is helpful to free up device memory. A simple way to do this is to offload all the files, photos, and videos that you don’t need to the cloud. Alternatively, you could also use a micro SD card. However, this depends on your smartphone.
Of course, not only documents burden your device memory. Applications, in particular, demand a lot of energy from your Android smartphone. That’s why a thorough spring cleaning of your app folders is a real performance booster.
Of course, there are applications that we don’t want or can’t do without. This includes, for example, social networks or navigation tools. But many providers also have a slimmed-down, agile option in addition to their large version. For example, you can install Facebook Lite or Google Maps Go and free up considerable capacity. However, it is also clear that some functions may no longer be available to you.
The last tip with which you can breathe new life into your old Android smartphone relates to the so-called background activities. What does that mean? Do you wonder why your device is slow even though you are not using any applications? Then it may be because WhatsApp and Co. are downloading updates or synchronizing data in the background without you having to do anything.
Your performance suffers as a result, and the practice is also questionable from a data protection point of view. That’s why you can limit or altogether disable background activities in the settings for each app.
Of course, it is an illusion that your Android smartphone will last for decades with these tips. However, it is quite the case that this way, you can buy yourself a few extra months or maybe even years – depending on how high your claims are.
